A new study determines the age of the universe

An international team of astrophysicists estimated the age of the universe, based on an image of the oldest light taken by the Atacama Cosmic telescope in Chile.

The American University of "Stony Brook" said in a statement, that the previous estimates of scientists regarding the age of the universe were not accurate, and this result was reached thanks to the study of the image of the oldest light, to confirm that the age of the universe is 13.8 billion years.

Scientists have shown that light, known as the "twilight of the big bang", is a radiation of the cosmic microwave background, and is evidence of the birth of the universe 380,000 years after its creation, that is, when protons and electrons joined to form the first atoms.

The image, which represents the oldest light in the universe, will help scientists better understand how it is formed and shapes the Earth and other planets, USA Today reported on the American University.

According to Stony Brook University, astrophysicist and co-author, Neelima Segal, seeing the first image of the universe in its initial form after removing any disturbing effects will help us to come close to knowing the "birth of the universe".

The information gathered by the telescope in Atacama, Chile, is consistent with the findings of the Planck satellite earlier in the life of the first light.

Scientists ’previous estimates of the universe were based on complex calculations related to the dimensions of galaxies, and relying on them to estimate the age of the universe.

It is worth noting that the "Atacama Cosmic Telescope" is an international scientific project in which scientists and researchers from 41 institutions in 7 countries around the world participate.
