The Gambia presidency said that three ministers have been diagnosed with Covid-19 disease, in a new indication that the emerging coronavirus is spreading among senior officials after the vice president was diagnosed with the disease last week.

The presidency reported last week that President Adama Barrow had been subjected to self-isolation for two weeks after his Vice-President, Isato Torai, was found ill.

In a statement released late on Sunday evening, the presidency said that Finance Minister Mamburi Nage, Energy Minister Fafa Sanyang and Agriculture Minister Amy Vibro were also infected with the virus.

The statement did not disclose details of the health of the injured ministers.

The Gambia has recorded 498 cases so far and only nine deaths, one of the lowest in West Africa.
